Johnston joined members of the Board of Supervisors and SFUSD Board of Education, arts services from across the town and students from Lowell Senior School, Claire Lilienthal and George Washington Carver Academic Elementary Schools in celebration of the Arts Education Master Plan.
"This master plan is just a living document that reflects the collaboration involving the City and the college district on arts education," said Mayor Newsom. "San Francisco's attempts are unprecedented - and over the next couple of months, we shall observe 'order of magnitude' improvements in the arts education that children receive," continued the Mayor.
The Arts Education Master Plan is San Francisco Unified School District's strategy for integrating the arts into each student's daily program. The Plan requires a consecutive, complete arts education program that shows the top quality of San Francisco's artistic landscape in the aspects of dance, drama, audio, visual arts and literary arts.
The guiding principle of this strategy is that all students deserve both access to and money in arts education and each school community, no matter the neighborhood or academic importance, will soon be called upon to accept the notion that every student should be provided with the arts being an essential element of the academic time.
Interim Superintendent Gwen Chan said In San Francisco, we are devoted to giving every scholar with a well-rounded education. For a lot of years, some students haven't had opportunities to develop artistic literacy. Every school and every student may benefit out of this strategy.
Area Engagement
The Master Plan reflects the views of more than 1,500 students, parents, teachers, administrators, arts providers, and business and social leaders. Idea H accepted by San Francisco voters in 2004, became the catalyst, making the Arts Education Master Plan, completed in August 2006, a funded requirement. The considerable increase in arts education spending, programming, assistance and resources that the Master Plan suggests is likely to be funded mainly by Prop H funds. Extra funding, like the new State funding for the arts, will soon be aligned to the Arts Education Master Plan.
The new strategy will hopefully keep San Francisco school students touching the lively artistic group around them and help them to benefit from the several enriching opportunities for art in the class room and beyond. San Francisco Bay Area schools are ready to implement the brand new curriculum method at all levels to make certain a regular and fulfilling learning experience for all students. Pupils, parents, and teachers at San Francisco Bay Area schools are assured as one devoted to ongoing arts education that the Arts Education Master Plan will mark their community..
